KUALA LUMPUR: The public and media practitioners have been urged to respect the privacy of the family of an 11-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby boy in Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said what the family needed right now was proper counselling to help them cope with the situation.

“The baby is currently warded at Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah (HTAN), Kuala Pilah,” she told a media conference after opening the KPJ Tawakal Health Centre in Jalan Pahang here yesterday.

On Aug 5, a student was reported to have given birth to a baby boy at a private clinic and later transferred to Jempol Hospital before being moved to HTAN for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Rohani said the country needs 700 geriaticians by 2020 and currently has only 20. — Bernama
