KUCHING: The people are told to use Internet infrastructure diligently and not to abuse them for the government has invested a lot for their implementation.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity Supply and Telecommunication) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said although the government was slightly behind in implementing these infrastructure in the state, the people must have the skill in order to use them positively.

“Do not show off that you are the best in the cyber world and abuse the system but instead you must be able to have a return of investment as the government has put so much money in its implementation.

“There are many famous people in the ICT industry, like Steve Jobs, and we want our young people (students) to be creative and innovative and to have skills in this digital world so that we can have good return of investment,” he said.

He said this to advise 10 finalists of ‘Liga Remaja Kreaftif 2015’ organised by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the use of digital world at one of leading hotels here yesterday.

Dr Rundi said one of the ways was to see that the best people in digital world to be creative and have innovative ideas so that they could use the Internet wisely.

“We have to start from the beginning, with young people in schools. It will also inject new ideas in them in order to be creative and innovative,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 was announced winner of the state-level ‘Liga Remaja Kreaftif 2015’ league and walked away with RM5,000 cash prize and certificate.

The first runner-up was Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah which took home RM3,000 cash prize and certificate while second runner-up was Kolej Vokasional Kuching (RM2,000 and certificate).

A total of 131 schools statewide participated in the competition.

Special adviser to EXCO Information and ICT Sarawak, Dato Norhayati Mohd Ismail, and MCMC Sarawak Regional head Roslan Mohamad were also present at the function.
