MIRI: Sarawakians are urged to give a big mandate to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem this coming state election so that he can continue the work of closing the huge rural-urban development gap.

Parti Pesaka Bumpipuera Bersatu’s (PBB) senior vice-president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said it was important that BN win big in Sarawak so that Adenan could continue his agenda to develop the rural areas.

“Adenan has proven his capability as chief minister during his 16 months in office, implemented many development projects in the state and is firm in his stand about Sarawak’s interests,” he said at a PBB Lambir Hari Raya gathering in Kampung Beraya Wednesday night.

Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang and PBB information chief Datuk Yusop Sani Wahab were also present.

According to Awang Tengah it was important for rural folks to give their undivided support to Adenan and BN candidates in the coming polls because the majority of them – Dayaks, Orang Ulu, Kedayan, Meriek and many others – still have some way to go to be on par with their urban counterparts.

He slammed opposition parties namely DAP and PKR for opposing the need to develop the state’s rural areas.

He said DAP, for example, rejected an additional fund of RM500 million to develop the rural areas and PKR brought the Election Commission to court for the re-delineation of 11 new seats in Sarawak.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, thus urged the people to vote BN and help Adenan to champion Sarawak’s cause to the federal government.

On the Sibuti Landfill and the transit plant at Lambir, he urged Land and Survey Department and Miri City Council to sit down together again and work out a solution to overcome the problem.

He also said the Medan Niaga Kampung Beraya in Lambir was now undergoing construction and once completed it would benefit local petty traders.

Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat also spoke at the function.
