Politeknik KK has produced 18,062 graduates

KOTA KINABALU: The Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (PKK) has produced 18,062 graduates since its inception 20 years ago, including 1,675 who received their certificates and diplomas yesterday.

PKK Director Roslee Yahya said this at the polytechnic’s 19th convocation ceremony graced by the Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Mahiruddin at its campus, at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) in Menggatal, near here.

He said 1,653 graduates received their diplomas and 22 received their certificates after having completed their respective studies in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, trade, tourism and Hospitality.

“Until now the PKK has produced 18,062 graduates since the polytechnic’s inception 20 years ago,” he said.

Roslee said the 19th convocation ceremony saw a 14 per cent increase in the number of graduates from the previous convocation.

“The increase was a result of the competence of our lecturers, and the good infrastructure, facilities and equipment in our campus that produce a conducive learning environment to the students,” he added.

Meanwhile, Juhar in his keynote address, urged those graduates to acquire sound knowledge to defend themselves from any negative influences.

He reckoned that knowledge obtained should be the basis for implementing the responsibility to religion, the environment and the good relationship amongst fellow human beings.

Also present were the Director-General of the Department of Polytechnic Education Haji Mohlisin bin Jaafar; PKK Deputy Director of Academic Zaidi bin Zakaria; PKK Deputy Director of Academic Samat bin Soion @ Mar and other senior staff members of the polytechnic.
