LIMBANG: The government needs to expedite the construction of a weighing bridge to prevent overloaded lorries from further damaging the road linking Pandaruan and Medamit.

Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said the (overloading) problem was getting worse especially on the stretch of road leading to Kampung Hulu Lubai.

“Frequent repairs of the road seem futile as the overloaded timber lorries and other vehicles are constantly damaging the road.

“Nothing much can be done by the Road Transport Department with the absence of a weighing bridge,” he said when met during a Raya open house of Limbang Malay Association chairman Mohamad Abu Bakar who is also deputy chairman of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bukit Kota, here recently.

Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and his wife Dayang Maimunah Awang Mohd Daud and Paulus’ wife Mary Sindang were among those present.

Dr Rahman meanwhile hoped that the governments of Brunei and Malaysia would extend the opening hours of the immigration post in the district especially during the state-level National Day celebration and Limbang Fest end of this month.

Both governments had agreed to extend the opening hours of the border post from 10pm to midnight, which was now being studied.

“We are expecting some 10,000 visitors including those from Brunei, Sabah and Labuan coming to the two celebrations and as such we hope that the two governments will consider extending the opening of the border post to facilitate easy travel,” said Dr Rahman.
