SEMPORNA: The marine police here have detained two Filipino men on suspicion of smuggling petrol after some 32 jerry cans were found in the boat they were traveling in yesterday at Gaya Island.

Sabah marine police commander, ACP Mohamad Madun, said that at about 1.40 am yesterday, a marine patrol boat conducting special task in the area stopped and checked a blue boat.

The 25-year-old skipper and the 28-year-old crewman were both detained after empty jerry cans were found in the boat. They are being held on suspicion of smuggling of petrol to the Philippines. Further checks found that both men did not posses any identification documents.

Both men and the boat were brought to the marine base for further action.
