KUCHING: Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How yesterday thanked Sarawakians who took part in the Bersih 4 rally last weekend.

See said their presence represented a testimony and strong statement on the awareness of what this people movement was protecting — a clean and fair election, good governance, save the country’s economy, and the rights to freedom of expression.

“It shows Sarawakians are most willing to come forward to send a message of hope and pledge to stand up for the country’s renewal and rebirth when faced with political and economic turmoil,” he said when asked to comment on the rally yesterday.

See apologised, particularly to those participants who came from afar, for the hiccups in the peaceful gathering.

“Lessons are learned and we are hopeful that future gatherings will be better organised. For me, I know that the organisers, which are made up of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals, had tried their best in organising this event.”

He praised the organisers for their good efforts in ensuring that the event was approved by the police and Kuching South
City Council (MBKS).

“I must thank the police and MBKS for deploying their officers to assist and oversee the peaceful gathering.”

See said with the awareness generated, Sarawakians should continue with the good efforts and follow up with more efforts and actions to ensure that the objectives of Bersih 4 would be realised in the near future “for the good of ourselves, our nation, Sarawak and the future generations of Sarawakians”.
