KUCHING: Some 5,000 vacancies await jobseekers at the Sarawak Career Expo 2015, which will take place at CityONE Megamall here from 10am to 6pm, today and tomorrow.

These job opportunities are offered by various industries including employers from Singapore (Straits Construction Singapore Pte Ltd) and Peninsular Malaysia (Resort World Genting).

Organiser PenExpo Events Sdn Bhd (PenExpo) promised more than 40 booths at the expo, which would provide a platform for both employers and jobseekers to communicate directly and to seal employment contracts on the spot.

Its managing director Francis Wong said a room would be available for employers to meet jobseekers.

“We urge jobseekers to bring their resumes. We also provide free photocopy services of up to five sets. Additional ones will be charged 10 cent each,” he told a press conference at Citadines Hotel here yesterday.

The Sarawak Post-Graduate Expo, OKU (physically challenged) Career Fair and Women Career Fair would also be held in conjunction with the two-day expo.

Among the higher learning institutions that would meet prospective students are Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, University of Malaya and Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST) University.

The post-graduate expo offers those interested in pursuing higher studies to meet with educational consultants, listen to the experts and get invaluable advice on making the right choice for Masters and PhD courses.

Companies and agencies taking part in the OKU Career Fair include Everise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, H&L Supermarket, Bengkel Seri Sarawak and Samarahan Rehabilitation Centre.

Corporations expected at the Women Career Fair include Mostwell Sdn Bhd, Yahos Sdn Bhd and Akademi Kecantikan Zurainas as well as Sarawak Women and Family Department.

Human Capital Connection, JCI Damai, JobHouse Sdn Bhd, JobsMalaysia, JobStreet.com Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Institute of Accountants, On Semiconductor Sdn Bhd, Permata Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd, Press Metal, Sarawak Entrepreneur Association, Tokio Marine Life Insurance and Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak Bhd are among those taking up booths.

Meanwhile, SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian pointed out that the expo would reduce employment ‘red tapes’ besides offering opportunities of securing a job on the spot.

“I advise as many people as possible to come to the expo as they can meet potential employers. Besides, universities will be there to speak to potential students, informing them of courses and scholarships available.”

Two units of Nikon Coolpix S01 are up for grabs during the daily lucky draw held in connection with the expo.
