KUCHING: Three areas in the state recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of more than 100, considered unhealthy level, yesterday.

The Department of Environment’s website, as at 5pm yesterday, listed the three areas as Samarahan (113), Sri Aman (105) and Kuching (103).

API readings in Bintulu, ILP Miri, Sarikei and Sibu were at the moderate level, whereas Limbang was clear.

An API reading of between 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

The public are advised not to carry out open burning because this will worsen the air quality and hazy conditions, especially at affected areas.
