MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) gave the thumbs up to the current discussions on the concept empowerment as promised by the prime minister, saying it shows progress to autonomy in the state.

Its secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said the recent meeting between Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, was proof of commitment by both the state and federal governments.

“This indicates that matters on empowerment of our state ministries are moving in the right direction,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad Shabery said this after the meeting that various matters relating to fisheries, veterinary and crop cultivation were discussed. Ting said the empowerment in these areas would benefit those participating in the industries since the decision-making and implementation of policies and best industry practices would be faster, efficient and more effective because Sarawakians would be in charge of the process and implementation.

He said the chief minister’s efforts and dedication to Sarawakians was proof and that Sarawakians were very satisfied with his performance based on feedback received from the grassroots. SUPP called on voters to give their full support to the chief minister in the coming elections. The party was confident that his policies would bring many advantages to Sarawak and its people.
