GEORGE TOWN: Seventeen motorcycles parked at the parking bay of Flat 100, Jalan Sungai Pinang here, were destroyed in a fire yesterday morning.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department senior officer II Roslan Ahmad said they received a distress call at 4.43am and arrived at the scene about 15 minutes to control the blaze.

“When we arrived at the location, the motorcycles were already engulfed by fire and burning vigorously,” he told reporters here, today.

Roslan said the cause of the fire and total losses were still being investigated.

Meanwhile, Timur Laut District police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid when contacted said the police would review closed-circuit television camera footage at the parking area for further investigation.

“We will cooperate with the fire and rescue department to investigate whether the incident was the work of arson or not and members of the public with information are urged to contact any nearby police station,” he said. — Bernama
