KANOWIT: The community of SK Nanga Menalun in Sungai Poi here marked Independence Month by creating a 30 metre long ‘Jalur Gemilang’.
According to headmaster Saiful Eskandar Hapni, the national flag was the pooled effort of preschoolers, pupils, teachers, non-teaching staff, parents and the local community.
Saiful said the objectives of the event were to nurture a patriotic spirit among pupils, and remind them of how the country became independent.
“We also want to them to appreciate what the country has achieved so far,” he said when officiating at the event held at
the school recently.
He said it was important to instil patriotism among the younger generation who would grow up to become the country’s leaders.
Saiful reminded the pupils to safeguard racial harmony in the country.
The event was followed by the hanging of a 30 metre long flag at the school gate.
