MARUDI: Giving a helping hand is not only a religious duty but is also a culture practised throughout the ages.
So is the spirit of understanding and tolerance for all people regardless of race and religion, Persatuan Penduduk Mesra Rakyat Marudi and Bakong, Baram chairperson Josephine Duyuk Tuah said.
Living by this attitude and practice had ensured that harmony and peace prevailed in Sarawak, she added.
“We do not need to be of the same race and religion to help each other. We in this association should always be open to help one another and other people any time,” she said at a ceremony to hand donations from the association to Masjid Besar Marudi in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha yesterday.
“The association is always on the move to meet the needy people and look for ways to assist them not only through financial assistance but also referring their problems to the relevant authorities,” she added.
Josephine said the association was formed to help needy people in Marudi and Bakong areas.
The people-oriented association was established on May 12, 2014. Although it is new, its membership has now reached 2,500.
“We wish to increase the number of members through robust involvement and meeting the people,” she pointed out.
