KUCHING: The state police have no proposal to set up a police station in Bakun and Murum hydro dam sites for the time being.

Deputy State Police Commissioner Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung said they would consider deploying regular personnel and set up necessary infrastructure there when economic and tourism activities start to pick up.

“For the time being, we are working with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) as operator of the two dams to engage auxiliary police to take care of the security aspects,” he said.

He said should they require any police assistance they can always contact Belaga district police headquarters which is the nearest to them.

Chai, who officially retires from service today after spending 36 years in the police force, told reporters this during his farewell visit to Padawan District Police Headquarters in Siburan yesterday.
