MIRI: Two single mothers from Tanjung Belipat, Niah, received aid from the Welfare Department yesterday.

The duo were identified by the Bekenu state constituency service centre.

Siti Fariza Abdullah, 25, has two children and is currently living with her parents in a small hut, while Rohana Nawi, 25, who has four children, also lives with her parents.

Bekenu service centre officer councillor Sulaiman Ahmad, Penghulu Haw Min Wai and Bekenu welfare officer Singap Raya were present to hand over the aid of food items.

Haw said both Siti Fariza and Rohana are unemployed and depend on their parents.

“We hope NGOs (non-governmental organisations) or associations can help and come forward to help the family and their children’s schooling needs,” he said.

“We will help those needy people by identifying them and referring them to the Welfare Department and seek donations from various NGOs.”

Meanwhile, the Welfare Department will hold a campaign to register the disabled on Saturday (Oct 3).

It will be held at the Sunflower community based rehabilitation centre at Lot 312, Jalan Bulan Sabit, Krokop 1 from 9am to 12 noon.
