KKCCCI to continue building educational, cultural infrastructures

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) strives to achieve tangible contributions for the Chinese community in Sabah through the development of the Silk Road Economic Belt, especially in promoting Chinese culture and education.

KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui said the chamber and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu would continue to explore the feasibility in building educational and cultural infrastructures.

“We must work hard to ensure Sabah takes part and truly benefits from the development opportunities brought about by China’s going global and One Belt One Road initiatives.”

Lui said this during a dialogue session held in conjunction with the visit by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government led by its director, Ji Ning, at the KKCCCI building here on Wednesday.

The event was initiated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Ma-Zhong Friendship Association Sabah.

Lui said the One Belt One Road initiative had received overwhelming reactions in the political, trade and academic realms.

Hence, he said KKCCCI felt the need to seriously explore, study and learn more about One Belt One Road.

As such, Lui said KKCCCI through the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Chen Peijie, and relevant organizations in the state would organize a major One Belt One Road seminar for the Chinese community in Sabah.

On another note, Lui said the dialogue aimed to open up a mutually beneficial relations that served the business interests of both China and Sabah.

Also present were Ma-Zhong Friendship Association Sabah honorary president Tan Sri Andrew Liew, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu Chen Peijie, Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SUCCC) secretary general Datuk Ling Tiong Chai, Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) deputy president Datuk Jimmy Yong Kyok Ming, Putatan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Datuk Frankie Liew, Papar Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Liew Siew Kian, Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (SATTA) chairman Dato Seri Winston Liaw, KKCCCI deputy chairman Dr Ling Hie Sing and Sipitang Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Yeo Boun Kiat.
