KENINGAU: A man was found hanged from the branch of a mango tree in the backyard of his house at a village here on Wednesday.

District Police chief DSP Douglas Nyeging Taong said the 43-year-old bachelor was found with a rope tied around his neck, hanging from the mango tree located about 30 meters from the back of his house about 6.45am.

He said a chair believed to have been used by the victim to stand before hanging himself was also found.

“When police arrived at the scene, the victim’s family members have lowered the victim down in an effort to save him but after knowing that he was no longer alive, they placed him in the living room of his house,” he explained.

Douglas said the body had been sent to the Keningau Hospital in a police vehicle for a post-mortem and his mother had claimed the victim’s remains.

He said the case was classified as sudden death as there was no criminal element involved.
