KUCHING: The 1Singai Tondong commercial centre along Tondong-Bau-Batu Kawa road near here will ‘erupt’ again with sounds, sights and colours with the return of the popular Pesta 1Singai next month.
Unlike the inaugural Pesta 1Singai which was held during the National Day holiday period last year, the Pesta 1Singai this time is to be held on the first week of the year-end school holidays from Nov 27 to 29.
Activities for the youngsters include children’s colouring competition, children’s talent show, youth talent show, street soccer challenge and street takraw challenge. There will also be contemporary dances, cultural and martial arts show, lucky draws, big bikers show, cats/pet show, blood donation drive, and zumba exercise.
The 1Singai Merdeka Beauty Queen Pageant, which is open to single Malaysian women irrespective of race aged 17 to 26, will also be back as the highlight of the carnival; while Elvis impersonators will perform on Nov 28 and 29.
Putra Sentosa Development Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Henry Harry Jinep, whose company developed the 1Singai Tondong, said the carnival is organised by the company as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) event to give back to the local community.
He said booth spaces are available for local young entrepreneurs to sell products and services, and outstanding ones will get the chance to win the ‘Beautiful Stall’ award.
“The main purpose of the event is to use it as platform to improve the socio-economic standing of the local communities by creating opportunities to small-time business entrepreneurs while at the same time promote the 1Singai commercial centre to the public.
“This is also in line with the call made by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to Bumiputera entrepreneurs to think big and play wider and more active roles in the economy,” Henry said when met at his office.
He said Putra Sentosa will be assisted by five companies, namely, Jawai Enterprise, First Choice Event Support Company, Gem Events Sdn Bhd, Erwin Event Management Company, and Blissful Ornament to run the carnival.
