KENINGAU: The strong winds that occurred on Friday damaged 31 houses in three villages in Sook area with some properties even having its roof blown off.

A total of 29 houses including the village hall and a church building in the village of Simpang Empat and one house each in Kampung Kabatang Baru and Kampung Tiong in Sook sustained damage in the incident at 4.50 pm Friday afternoon.

Sook Community Development Leader, Charles Ikang said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Sook State Assemblyman Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, State Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Youth Chief Arthur Joseph Kurup, Pensiangan Parliamentary Liaison Officer Francis Rayner Udong and several other leaders visited the village of Simpang Empat which was severely affected as well as Kampung Kabatang Baru and Tiong.

He said aid will be distributed to all affected after a detailed report was obtained while the roof of Kampung Simpang Empat village hall and the Roman Catholic Church would be repaired as soon as possible.

Charles said a total of four houses, three houses in Kampung Simpang Empat and one in Kampong Kabatang Baru were proposed for reconstruction following the incident.

“The incident which happened on Friday afternoon also snapped electricity cables and knocked down electricity poles in Kampung Kabatang Baru and Kampung Simpang Empat that blocked the road.

“The roof of the village hall building was blown away by strong wind, exposing the electrical lines. Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has been informed and has promptly made an inspection and repaired it on the same day,” he said.
