MIRI: The Orang Ulu communities in Baram have to be united and willing to cooperate with the government to bring development to their area

Speaking at a meet the people session in Long Apu, Ulu Baram on Saturday night, Baram MP Anyi Ngau said the government realised that the people in rural areas needed development, but the people themselves must first be able to work with each other and with the government facilitate the implementation of development projects.

“To achieve the development, we must first stand united and work closely with the government to ensure all the development plans for us in Baram goes smoothly.”

Anyi who visited Long Apu for the first time since he was elected as the MP for Baram, said as their elected representative he needed all the Orang Ulu communities to walk hand-in-hand with him and cooperate with each other in order for the entire Baram to develop.

On another note, Anyi also urged the Baram people to prioritise education for their children.

“Education plays vital role in shaping the future of our children, thus each and every child must be educated.

When the children excel in their studies, they can uplift the standard of living of their family and also contribute to the development of the community,” he told.

Some 300 people from longhouses in Long Julan, Long San, Long Jeeh, Long Selaton, Long Panai and also Long Apu attended the gathering.

At the event, Anyi announced RM 50,000 grant to repair the longhouse, RM 20,000 from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to the Long Apu church, RM 5,000 to Long Apu women association, RM 5000 to the village security and development committee (JKKK) and RM 3000 for SK Long Apu Parent-Teachers Association (PTA).

He also gave away donations to 20 elderly residents in Long Apu.

Accompanying Anyi to Long Apu was political secretary to the Chief Minister Robert Laing.
