KUCHING: Deputy women, family and community development minister, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun visited Malaysia’s premier age care facility, Eden on the Park (EOTP) yesterday.

Expressing concerns over the rising aging population as well as the increasing amount of neglected old folks at the old folks home, Chew brought questions about the ability of the new age care residence’s ability to change the current mindset.

Albeit a new concept in local shores where children are still expected to care for their children due to ‘filial piety’, the new care residence is set to change the ideology by creating a new lifestyle concept where the aged population would love to stay in.

Simon Yong, managing director and CEO of EOTP, noted that the new care center is set more like a resort than a nursing home. With 24 hour care, activities, facilities as well as their peers, this enables the aged to have a better quality of life than to just stay at home while their families are busy with work or studies.

To recap, EOTP is a five star nursing care residence designed according to the Australian standards where it offers long term, short term and rehabilitation residential care to seniors.

Yong, giving Chew a tour of place showcased high tech safety standards including a bedside sensor for seniors who gets up middle of the night so a nurse may be able to assist them, as well as arranging paint patterns to the suites to help clients with dementia get a better grasp of their surroundings.

Other facilities include 24 hours nurses on duty, personal and nursing care, online medical and nursing records, meals and refreshments, doctors on call, housekeeping and laundry services, business centre, in house kitchen with an ex hotel chef in charge of the daily menus, treatment rooms, physiotherapy room, game room, day care centre, 120 seat auditorium, pharmacy, beauty salon as well as social recreational activities.

It also boasts a sky garden at every floor for the seniors who are keen on gardening.

The project is a recognized EPP17 for retirement category under the NKEA healthcare sector and is fully supported by the government as a pioneer project.
