KUCHING: The Sibu Sacred Heart Secondary School Alumni Association of Kuching celebrated its 28th annual reunion dinner recently at the Sarawak Club here.

It was an unforgettable event where members and their family members came together to commemorate the formation of the alumni and learn of its progress through the years and was especially important as it was two years since the passing of the late Brother Albinus.

Noteworthy activities included the presentation of Excellence Awards for alumni members’ children who excelled in their studies, donations of RM3,000 to Yayasan La Sallian Kuching and RM3,500 to SMK Sacred Heart for needy students and the Book Prize.

Alumni president Henry Chuo kicked off the event with his speech on the importance of continuing the spirit, which was the theme for the reunion dinner, infused by the La Sallian brothers who managed the school in the early years.

He also announced a plan by the alumni to purchase a piece of property in the form of a shoplot in Chong Lin Park which would be used as the alumni’s resource centre, office and events venue including meetings for alumni members and a tuition centre for Yayasan La Sallian Kuching.

The dinner’s patron Dr Patrick Lau announced a contribution of RM20,000 to fund the school’s resource centre while additional contributions rolled in from former students as the class of ‘88-’90 added RM20,000 and the class of 1966 came forward with RM10,000. St Joseph student Dr David Ling chipped in RM5,000 and the committee members themselves committed RM20,000.
