MIRI: The United People’s Party (UPP) will help SMK St Columba to improve its facilities.

UPP northern region coordinator and UPP Piasau chairman Datuk Hii King Chiong said he would send several lorries of gravel stones for the teachers’ car park by next week.

Hii said he would also enlist help to build a 120-foot shade outside the school for the convenience of students and parents.

“We will talk with the Lions Club to build the shade for the school, giving shade to parents and students coming and going out from the school,” he said during a visit to the school yesterday.

He said UPP would try its best to help the people and share opinions to help society to further progress.

“We, UPP, will bravely face the people, persevering honestly to serve the people,” he said.

Hii also promised to bring a letter from the school seeking funds to build another block to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“We are thankful to people like Datuk Hii, who’ve come to help the school with their own money. We are calling on the public to come and willingly help the school with facilities and educational interests,” said SMK St Columba principal Meechang Tuie.

The school, which is one of the oldest in Sarawak, currently has 1,222 students who attend classes in two sessions.
