SIBU: Eight families whose house in Kampung Bandung here was destroyed by fire on Saturday will have their accommodation problem settled by this Friday.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said he was helping to look for a place for them to rent.

He thanked the public, associations and political parties for their donations and the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) for helping the fire victims.

He told reporters this yesterday after a simple ceremony to present assistance from Sibu Parliamentary Community Welfare and Development Council to the victims.

The assistance of RM500 cash per family was presented by Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau.

In the incident, 34 people from eight families were left homeless after fire destroyed their double-storey detached house in Kampung Bandung at about 4pm on Saturday.

The victims are now sheltered temporarily at a nearby sepak takraw hall.
