SIBU: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot after he rammed into a tree on the road divider at Mile 11, Tunku Abdul Rahman Road at 3.45pm yesterday.

Deputy police chief here, Supt Martin Koo, confirmed the fatal accident, saying no other motorist was involved.

Stewart Geliga, a 38-year-old lorry driver, was thrown some 20 metres from his motorcycle due to the impact of hitting the tree.

Passers-by called Sibu Hospital which sent a medical team to the scene and confirmed his death on arrival.

The police meanwhile took the body to Sibu Hospital mortuary.

It was said that the tragedy occurred when Stewart was riding to the town from Sibu Jaya.
