TUARAN: A family lost their lives to fire after it destroyed their houssebehind Taman Kolej Tuaran, Kampung Batangan here early yesterday morning.

The victims were identified as Baitin @ Fauziah Bitin, 48, and her eight-year-old son, Habiburahman Azahari.

Tuaran police chief DSP Abdul Fuad Abduk Malek said police received a call from the public on the fire at 1.15am.

According to Fuad, initial investigation found that the victim’s husband, Azahari Amat, 48, woke up to find thick smoke emitting from the upper part of their house and he then woke up his wife.

The charred remains of Fauziah and Habiburahman were respectively found by firefighters in a bedroom and in front of the toilet on the lower ground of the house.

The semi-concrete house was already 80 per cent burnt to the ground when the Tuaran fire and rescue team arrived at the scene at 1.31am. It ws put under control by 2.22am.

Apart from the house, the fire also destroyed a motorcycle, a Proton Wira car and a Mitsubishi Storm four-wheel drive.

On Wednesday, Yong Vui Keong, 69, Chong Fui Yen, 50, and their 30-year-old son, Peter Yong were killed after their single-storey house in Taman Bunga Raya, near Kota Kinabalu High School in Luyang was destroyed in a fire.

Also destroyed in the fire were two adjoining terrace houses, a Toyota Vios car and a Perodua Myvi car belonging to the deceased and a Proton Saga car and a Toyota Liteace van belonging to the neighbours.
