KUCHING: Some 60 villages in Kedup constituency may finally get their supply of clean treated water through projects implemented under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) which starts next year.

Currently, these villages depend on gravity feed system for water supply for their domestic use.

Kedup assemblyman Martin Ben said the constituency was allocated RM150 million for pipe connection works to these villages for the supply of water from the Slabi Water Treatment Plant.

“God-willing, these projects will be completed under the 11th Malaysia Plan,” he said recently.

He also said there is now 100 per cent road connectivity to villages in Kedup although two to five per cent of those roads
are yet to be tar-sealed.

He conceded that a small percentage of villages including Sungai Paoh and Marakai have yet to have electricity supply.

“I believe this will be solved under the 11MP under the rural transformation programme carried out by the state government,” he said.

Having said that, he hoped the constituents will make good use of the new infrastructure and basic amenities provided by
the government to improve their socio-economy.

“Hopefully, the folks will take advantage of all these to generate more income so that the local economy can improve,” he said.

Martin, who was recently confirmed by State BN chairman and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to defend his seat in the next state election, was met by the media as he was doing his walkabout at some villages in Kedup last weekend.

Among the villages he visited were Mentung Mubuk, Mentu Tapu and Slabi Entukuh, as he checked on the progress of the infrastructure works there.
