BEAUFORT: A mother was burned to death while her three-year-old son died moments upon arrival at the Likas Hospital after their home at Kampung Pulai Manang in Weston here was by destroyed by fire on Wednesday.

The charred remains of Fazilah Onong, 29, was found by Fire and Rescue Services personnel in the kitchen of the wood house after the 11.30pm incident.

Her son, Mohd Adam Alif Hayatudin, was rushed to the Likas Hospital in Kota Kinabalu after sustaining 70 percent burns on his body but succumbed to his injuries upon arriving at the hospital at 11am.

Three other family members, identified as Azhar Onong, 32, Mohd Salleh Misnan, 50, and Mariam Lingkok, 66 were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II (QEH II) for treatments.

District police chief DSP Azmir Abd.Razak confirmed the incident and said police were still investigating the case.

“The injured victims have been taken to QEH II in Kota Kinabalu and are under doctors’ observations.

“They are reported to be in stable conditions and we will continue to monitor their progress,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Azmir said the incident happened when the fire destroyed the wooden house at Kampung Pulai Manang around 11.30pm on November 4.

He said the Fire and Rescue Services forensic unit was still investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramli said three fire engines were sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 11.37pm.

He said firefighters found the victim’s body in the kitchen after they controlled the blaze and were carrying out investigation at the site.

Mohd Affendy said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
