KUALA LUMPUR: A team of police officers yesterday questioned former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over alleged defamatory remarks.

The officers met him for 45 minutes from 11am at his office at the Al-Bukhary Foundation.

They asked him about his statements, including remarks allegedly made at the Bersih 4 rally in August.

Approached by reporters as he was leaving his office at 1.15pm, Dr Mahathir said he “did not censor anything” during the questioning.

Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who led his team of lawyers, said three police officers from Bukit Aman recorded the statement.

“We advised him not to answer some of the questions and Dr Mahathir kept it simple.

“It went very well,” he told reporters.

Asked whether police would question the former prime minister again, the lawyer said: “We wouldn’t know, but for today it is done …we don’t see any reason for the police to question him further.” — Bernama
