KUALA TERENGGANU: The Agriculture and Agro-based Ministry plans to review the policy on granting licences to marine fisheries boat owners after some are found to have sold their catches to neigbouring countries.

Its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said it was high time that these licensees took responsibility for their action so that the people could also benefit from the country’s national treasures.

“I will look in detail the policy on the granting of these licences which  was relevant at one time.

“But now the issue of fish not landed in our country arises because they  are not interested in selling fish to neighbouring countries which have a stronger currency value,” he told reporters after officiating the Fisheries  Fiesta 2015 in Chendering here yesterday.

Also present were the ministry’s secretary-general (Policy) Datuk Azizan Mohamad Sidin, Fisheries director-general Datuk Ismail Abu Hassan and State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Plantations and Commodities Committee chairman Nawi Mohamad. — Bernama
