GEORGE TOWN: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) will impose price adjustments on e-cigarette or vape according to specific standards to ensure the safety of users.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the ministry was in discussion with various agencies, including the Health Ministry and SIRIM Bhd to formulate guidelines and price adjustments on the product.

He said the ministry had no plans to restrict the importation of vape into the country but consumers’ safety and health must be given attention.

“We will not stop them (vape sellers from selling the product), if not openly sold, they will sell it in the black market. We want to prevent this, therefore we are in discussions to find a solution.

“The number of vape users now have reached more than a million. We are not going to stop them, just want to find a safer way for them,” he told reporters after conducting a Festive Season Price-Controlled Scheme Visit at Little India, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said he was satisfied with the prices of goods at Bayan Baru Market Complex and Little India.

He said the ministry had conducted over 12,000 inspections nationwide and found that all traders complied with the law.

“There is adequate supply in the market during Deepavali. The scheme would be enforced from Nov 5 to 14,” he said.

The ministry has listed 18 types of food under the Festive Season Price Control Scheme, in conjunction with Deepavali. They include live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken eggs Grade A, B, and C, local bone-in mutton, imported bone-in mutton leg and imported boneless mutton leg. — Bernama
