KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be testifying before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over RM2.6 billion in political donations.

MACC attorney general Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali had announced that the prime minister was requested to testify before the anti-graft agency over the funds deposited into his personal bank account.

“I will do so and give my statement to the MACC soon over the political donations. I will give my cooperation and statement to the MACC so that the investigation can be completed as soon as possible,” he said in a media statement to Bernama today (Nov 12).

“It is my intention to fully cooperate in the investigation into this case considering that it has resulted in various allegations and slander.”

In a statement on Aug 3 this year, MACC acknowledged the funds had been transferred to Najib’s accounts, but said they were not linked to the company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Meanwhile in Johor Baharu, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed said Najib had agreed to give his statement on the political fund, and he was waiting for a date to interview the prime minister.

Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the department would answer all questions on allegations that the RM2.6 billion had been deposited into the prime minister’s personal bank account during the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Dec 3.

She was reported as saying that it was better to accumulate all the questions on the matter and give the reply on the final day of the sitting.

“Whether the prime minister or anyone (else) from JPM (the Prime Minister’s Department) answers, it is still the prerogative of the prime minister,” she had said. -Bernama
