MACC-logo---must-useKOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Pro-BN (Sabah) has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate allegations of illegal hill cutting near Taman Shangrila in Kibabaig, Penampang.

Its president Zulkarnain Mahdarhas said this had caused flash floods in the area each time it rained,

“Most flash floods are caused by illegal hill cutting, which also damages properties of villagers around the area. We believe illegal activities are being carried out in the area and we urge MACC and the relevant authorities to get involved and investigate the matter as soon as possible,” he said at the MACC office along Jalan Sulaman, here yesterday.

According to Zulkarnain, investigation by his team with the Lands and Surveys Department had shown that illegal activities had been going on for the past couple of years without any intervention from the authorities.

He also urged the Penampang member of parliament and elected representative to be involved and to voice out and defend the affected villagers who had suffered losses during the recent flash flood in Kibabaig and its surrounding areas in Penampang.

“We, Pro BN, will also offer panels and lawyers for the affected villagers to identify the mastermind behind the illegal hill cutting activities and to seek justice for them,” he said.
