KUALA LUMPUR: The applications of teachers of Sarawak origin serving in the peninsula to return to the state will be given priority without taking into account their length of services, effective Jan 1.

Posting of new teachers who were Sarawak-born to Sarawak would also be given priority.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan, who disclosed this, said the move was to meet the target of 90 per cent of local teachers in Sarawak.

“Our priority is to meet the target of 90 per cent local teachers teaching Sarawak over the next three years,” he said when replying to an oral question from Anyi Ngau (BN-Baram) in the Dewan Rakyat here, today.

Meanwhile, Kamalanathan said the Teachers Education Institute of Malaysia had implemented the recruitment of teaching candidates for the Bachelor of Teaching Programme from June this year by prioritising qualified candidates from Sabah and Sarawak. -BERNAMA
