SIBU: A businessman was found dead with his right arm almost severed in a suspected robbery on a store at the second floor of a shop lot in Selangau last Saturday.

Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Banyau believed two persons were involved and said police had launched a manhunt for them. Yak Bee Ming also suffered multiple cuts on his left arm in the incident that happened around 8.30pm. He usually would wear a waist pouch that contained money from his grocery shop takings. Prior to the incident at 8pm, he left his shop on the ground floor and went to the storeroom.

When he did not return to close the shop for business at 9.30pm, his wife phoned him from the shop but to no avail. She then went up to the store and was shocked to find Yak in a pool of blood and breathless on a bed. CCTV footage showed two men believed to be foreigners following Yap when he walked up the staircase and one of them later left the building.
The footage also showed after 10 minutes, the other man walk out from the building with blood stains on his body, carrying a knife and a waist pouch.

The knife was found in a drain near the victim’s van and had been taken by the police as evidence.

The waist pouch that contained RM10,000 was missing.

The footage also showed the two suspects showing up at the shop at 7am.

Yak had been in the grocery business at Selangau for more than 10 years.

Yak’s body was sent to the mortuary at Sibu Hospital at 5am on Sunday.
