SIBU: A rider was killed when his motorcycle collided with a black sports car in front of the St John’s Anglican Church at Tun Abang Haji Openg Road here yesterday.

It is unclear how the collision occurred at 6.20pm, but the police believed the forceful impact had sent both vehicles into the fence of the church, bringing down a section of the concrete wall.

The rider and his motorcycle were both thrown into the church’s compound through an opening in the collapsed wall caused by the impact.

At the front yard of the church is a cemetery and the man landed on a tomb next to a cross.

Police have identified the 50-year-old rider, who died on the spot, as Ting Yew Kui from Brooke Drive 31.

It is said the black sports car belongs to a son of a prominent corporate figure in Sibu.

It is believed he had left the scene when the police arrived.

Ting’s body has been sent by the police to the hospital mortuary.

Police are investigating the accident.
