BINTULU: The new modern bus terminal complex to be built at Kidurong Sentral Township will be the new landmark of Bintulu town in the transportation sector.

According to the developer of the township, Menawan Megah Sdn Bhd, this bus terminal complex will serve the greater Kidurong regions including Kidurong Industrial areas, Bintulu Port, Bintulu Vocational College and its surrounding residential areas.

This modern bus terminal forms an integral part of the Kidurong Sentral integrated development.

“There is a need for a modern bus terminal in the Kidurong areas to provide convenience to the residents within these areas and to ease congestion in the nearby bus terminal,”said the developer’s representative Danny Tiong.

Kidurong has a strategically central location in Sarawak serving the northern and central regions of Sarawak.

At least 10 bus companies and logistic operators such as Bus Suria, Bus PB, Bas Borneo Highway, Hornbill Bas Ekspres, Kirata Sdn Bhd, Midsar Transport Sdn Bhd, Wilmas Sdn Bhd, Sapphire Pacific Sdn Bhd and VFL Logistics have already committed to move into the modern bus terminal once it is completed.

A signing ceremony was held at Parkcity Everly Hotel yesterday involving 10 companies and logistic operators who entered into a joint collaboration agreement with Menawan Megah to set up their ticket sale and service counters and bus operations at the modern bus terminal.

These bus operators collectively handle passenger loads of more than 400,000 passengers per year plying across Sarawak from Miri to Kuching connecting all major centres in the state and serving regular express bus schedules to Pontianak in Indonesia.

Tiong said this modern bus terminal is designed with safety, comfort, security, cleanliness and convenience for users.

As such, facilities like a ‘Golden Lounge’ equipped with modern amenities like free wi-fi, showers, toilets, entertainment and sofa lounge are made available to bus passengers travelling from the hub.

A state-of-the-art ticket sales and service counters and sick bay are included in the well laid out plan.

A sufficient number of well — ventilated and roof-covered bus parking bays are available for the safe boarding and off-loading of passengers, hence improving safety and comfort.

In addition, there will be a well known supermarket chain operating in the complex as anchor tenant and a sizeable food court with stalls serving local and international delicacies plus a franchised fast food chain.

There will be an ample supply of retail stores to satisfy the discerning needs of patrons ranging from fashion, electronic gadgets, books, beauty care and salons.

This modern bus terminal complex is expected to be completed in the next two years in tandem with the construction of phase 1 shophouses, residential houses and international school.

It will greatly enhance the life-style and improve the standard of living for people in Bintulu.

According to Tiong, the terminal has entered the third phase of construction and is expected to be fully completed by 2018.

“The construction of this bus terminal is under the 10-year master plan to develop the area with lots of facilities,” he said.
