BAU: Medical student Nisha Thayananthan proved that brains and good looks could be a powerful combination as she blazed her way into winning the 1Singai Beauty Pageant 2015 on Saturday night.

The lanky 23-year-old Indian from Kuching was a crowd favourite from the start as she scored top marks through the confidence in her catwalk and display of eloquence, as well as good command of English during the question-answer segment.

For her triumph, she walked home with RM3,000 cash prize, a trophy and other prizes sponsored by the organiser Putra Sentosa Enterprise.

Moreover, Nisha went home as a double-winner that night as she also claimed the Miss Photogenic subsidiary title.

The first runner-up prize of RM2,000 and other accompanying prizes went to flight stewardess Carmilla Ivy Daniel Manja, 21, from Kampung Batu Sepit, Krokong.

Carmilla also won the Miss Talent subsidiary title for her Bollywood-inspired ‘Nimbooda’ dance performance.

Stephanieaudrey John, 21, from Kampung Sudoh, Singai took third place, bringing home RM1,000 cash prize and other prizes.

Caroline Kueh, of Chinese-Iban parentage, won the Miss Favourite subsidiary title after her photo garnered more than 1,400 likes on 1Singai Beauty Queen’s Facebook page.

The winners received their prizes from Putra Sentosa Group of Companies chief executive officer Dato Henry Harry Jinep, his wife Datin Christina Esni Mied and daughter Eunice.

There were altogether 10 finalists for the pageant, held in conjunction with the three-day 1Singai Tondong Festival 2015 launched on Friday.

Meanwhile, the second night of the 1Singai Tondong Festival hosted a crowd of more than 3,000 people thronging the site to watch the beauty pageant and performances by local artistes and bands.

Business was also brisk at the participating stalls, with food and beverages reported to be sold out before the end of the night.

The festival at the 1Singai Tondong Commercial Centre, developed by Putra Sentosa Development Sdn Bhd, ended last night in a ceremony attended by Land Development Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing.
