MIRI: Miri Central Police Station (CPS) officially opened a triage room at its premises yesterday to further enhance its services to the public.

Speaking after launching the facility at CPS, Miri police chief ACP Junaidi Bujang said the triage room was the first to be opened in Miri that will cater to the needs of trauma victims, the injured, victims of kidnapping and also sexual abuse victims.

“It is timely for the city to have this facility not only for the purpose of ensuring the comfort and safety of victims who come to lodge complaints, but it is also meant to assure the public to have confidence in the task force,” he said.

Junaidi added that the triage room would provide more privacy to victims, especially when sensitive cases such as rape are involved.

The facility was first introduced in 2010 and currently there are 199 police stations nationwide offering the facility to victims.

“This facility is an initiative by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to provide better services to the people. It also shows PDRM’s seriousness in handling such cases,” he said.

Present at the event yesterday were several local community leaders.
