SIBU: A man was killed on the spot while his son was critically injured when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car at Mile 8 Tunku Abdul Rahman Road here about 8.10am yesterday.
Ja’afar Juai, 50, from Kampung Jeriah, Mile 7 1/2 here died from head injuries.
He was flung onto the opposite lane of the dual-carriage way by the impact.
His son, Mohd Firdarus, 23, landed on the front windscreen of the car driven by a 41-year-old woman. He sustained serious head injuries.
The car was travelling in the direction of Sibu Airport while Ja’afar was sending his son to a driving school near the area when the accident struck.
Deputy Sibu police chief Supt Martin Koo said initial investigation by the police found the motorcycle suddenly switching lane to make a U-turn to get to the driving school.
A 50-year-old motorcyclist known only as Saha was among the first few passers-by who stopped by to help.
Saha said he was on his way to Stapang to work.
Meanwhile, a man from Kuching had a rude shock Wednesday morning when he discovered the rear windscreen of his car parked near a hotel in Lanang Road here smashed.
The man, in his 30s, said a box of foodstuff in the car was missing.
A police report has been lodged.
