SIBU: UPP Meradong chief Datuk Paduka Dr Thomas Hii King Hiong hopes SUPP and UPP can reach a common ground for the political future of the Chinese community when they come again to the negotiation table with the Chief Minister on Dec 17.

Hii said in a statement yesterday he hoped both parties which represented the Chinese community would not remain at loggerheads.

“This is a crucial moment for the solidarity of the Chinese community in the State Barisan Nasional. The parties cannot afford to be disunited; they should put aside their differences to work with Adenan for a win-win situation.”

Hii said the parties should seriously consider the political future of the people as Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem set to transform Sarawak.

He said such efforts of Adenan had already seen great results and the parties must stay in tune in these transformation programmes with the people.

He said since Adenan took office as the chief minister, he had achieved 46 major transformations.Among them, was the toll waiving of Lanang Bridge and the restoration of English language as an official language in the government.

He said Adenan’s administrative policies had won the hearts of the people, and for the future of the Chinese community, the members were already gathering force behind him.

“The two parties representing them should therefore come together to win the battle in the coming election.”

He said through this, they should fill in new blood to wrest back the seats from the opposition.

“If we cannot come to a common stand, Adenan’s mission could not be fulfilled. If we can, we shall achieve a win-win situation for Sarawak – together.”
