MIRI: Workers and patrons scrambled out of a coffee shop in Saberkas Commercial Centre here yesterday after realising that there was a gas leakage in the kitchen.

The 9.45am incident began when some workers and customers heard a continuous hissing sound. Later, the workers found that the gas was seeping out of faulty hoses that connected two cooking gas cylinders with the stoves.

“After that, everyone panicked. All of them rushed out of the shop.

“Several workers quickly turned off the stoves, disconnected the hoses and threw the tanks into a monsoon drain nearby for fear that they might explode,” said a witness.

Fire-fighters arrived moments later after receiving a distress call from one of the coffee shop workers.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, although some of the customers appeared to be in shock over the whole situation.
