KUCHING: Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg thanked Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak for giving balanced news.

“I am confident that accurate reporting will give the public the correct information for them to do their own clever analyses.

“I know getting news is full of challenges as you are not notified beforehand, often you have to scramble to find the latest news, and the environment to source for news is challenging at times,” he added.

Abang Johari was speaking at a dinner themed ‘Malam Sehari Sejiwa Berita Ehwal Semasa RTM Sarawak’ held at Imperial Hotel on Tuesday.

The tourism minister and Satok assemblyman said the reporting landscape had changed with the growth in technology. In the old days, radio news came from one channel, like British Broadcasting Corporation. Now we get news from multiple channels – Facebook, Twitter and many others.

Abang Johari said reporters these days had to be quick as news around the world reach us quickly.

The dinner was attended by state director of broadcasting Salamh Ibrahim Melina, state deputy director of broadcasting Jamel Seman, assistant director of news and current affairs Julaihi Udin, former assistant director of news and current affairs Jeffrey Samy, and former radio news editor Ariffin Ali.
