SIBU: The Sibu Hospital blood bank will open its Blood Transfusion Centre for visitors on Dec 19 from 9.30am to 3pm.

Hospital director Dr Ngian Hie Ung said they were doing this for the public to learn more about the blood bank and its activities.

“We want to take this opportunity to show the public the convenience of donating blood at the blood bank.

“Donating blood here is more comfortable, faster and private,” she said, adding that the centre had been renovated with the inclusion of better facilities.

Noting that there are many one-time blood donors, Dr Ngian said these donors were encouraged to continue donating regularly.

Meanwhile, she said the blood bank had collected 7,382 pints of blood from 4,984 donors from January to November this year.

“Of this figure, 27 per cent were walk-in donors,” she said at a press conferende recently.

The blood transfusion centre is open from 8.30am to noon and 2pm to 4pm on weekdays.

During weekends, blood donors, particularly those donating in groups, may donate at the centre by appointment.
