KUCHING: The Sarawak Cheshire Home 2015 Annual Open Day and Charity Sales held in July raised a total of RM155,518.92, which shows that members of the public are still rather generous despite the rising cost of living.

Sarawak Cheshire Home president and fund-raising sub-committee chairman Dato Sri Ang Lai Soon said, however, the money collected still needed to be handled prudently.

“We used to have a lot more grants coming in but the only one we get now is RM80,000 from the federal government to subsidise the food,” he said in his speech during a simple appreciation ceremony on Tuesday.

He acknowledged the contribution and help of the residents, staff, volunteers and the newspapers for this year’s open day and charity sales, adding that the same event raised RM130,400 last year.

Ang said the fund-raining event also served as an activity for the residents of the home to enjoy their time interacting with other people.

He said members of the public can always inquire from the Sarawak Chesire Home on how they can spend quality time with the residents. Those with useful or interesting skills to contribute are also welcome to find out how they can contribute.
