KUCHING: The Kwong Loong Temple in Batu Kawa will become a tourist attraction in the area once the second phase of renovation and development project is completed in six months’ time.

The temple management committee is, however, in dire need of RM600,000 to meet the total cost of the project.

United People’s Party (UPP) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Second Finance Minister, on Friday pledged RM30,000 while UPP Batu Kawa branch chairman Liu Thian Leong yesterday contributed RM50,000 to the project.

At the project launch yesterday, Wong noted that the first phase of renovation work had successfully improved the temple, making the religious structure a beautiful landmark in Batu Kawa.

“I am confident that under the capable leadership of Then Shao Ying, chairman of the management committee, Kwong Loong Temple will be further uplifted to be a tourist hotspot for locals and visitors alike.

“Kwong Loong Temple is famous with many worshippers and followers, thanks to the dedicated service and good governance by the management committee,” Wong said in his text of speech, which was read by Liu.

Wong asserted that UPP Batu Kawa branch was very honoured and privileged to be requested to render some assistance to raise fund for the temple and that they would try their best to help.”

He said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had proven his calibre as a great statesman with great vision.

“He has reiterated his stand against all extremists in religion and cultures. Under his dynamic leadership, people feel the peace, security and harmony. Let’s give our fullest support to the chief minister so that his blessing and heritage will continue,” he said.
