KUCHING: The search-and-rescue (SAR) operation looking for missing nurse Muirul Wazieyna Mohd Yusuf at Pasir Pandak was called off yesterday.

The painful decision was made following a meeting of agencies involved in the operation after the final search was made yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kuching chief Tiong Ling Hii said the decision was made following their discussion with officers from the state Civil Defence Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Sarawak General Hospital.

Johor-born Nurul Wazieyana, 23, went missing during an outing with friends. She was believed to have been hit by huge waves while walking along the beach.

The SAR team however found her clothes and undergarments, some of which bore holes resembling crocodile bite marks.
