KUCHING: A total of 116 children from primary schools in the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency received new school bags and stationery items from PAS Samariang recently.

The distribution was held as part of the party’s ‘Back to School’ programme, in view of the coming new school term.

Moreover, 51 pupils out of the total 116 also received cash incentives as a reward for their excellent results in this year’s Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

According to state PAS information and media relations chief Mohamad Shokri Ahmad Fauzi, the programme aims to lessen the burden faced by parents, especially those from the lower income bracket.

“It is our wish that through this effort, the children would study harder when the new semester begins.

“We at PAS also are ready to assist anyone, regardless of race, religion and political ideology,” he said when met after the handover at PAS Petra Jaya office near Jalan Sultan Tengah here recently, where PAS Petra Jaya chief Morshidi Hassan was also present.

Adding on, Shokri said PAS had always been concerned about welfare issues involving local communities, pointing out that such an act was an integral part in Islamic teachings.

“We (PAS) did stand in Samariang constituency (in the last state polls) and despite not being elected, we are still focused on attending to the social and welfare needs of the people here,” he said, adding that the party would always welcome help and donation from the public to help it continue with its social programmes.
