MIRI: Travellers long to see the traffic congestion at Sungai Tujuh Immigration Checkpoint come to an end. A frequent traveller, Sahabirahmat Mail, said the jam sometimes lasted for a few hours which caused long queues of vehicles from Brunei, especially during weekends and holidays.

“Please open up more counters to serve motorists at the checkpoint so that travellers are not caught in the jam for many hours,” Sahabirahmat said to The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to Sahabirahmat, there were sometimes only two counters serving motorists from Brunei to Miri, which caused vehicles to queue up in two long lines. He thus requested that the authority ensure that there is sufficient manpower to man the counters at the checkpoint. Sharing the same view, a Mirian, Lee Boon Yu, said it was very frustrating and troublesome to wait in the long queue just because of insufficient staff manning the counters. As the new year approaches, travellers from Sabah and Brunei are expected to cross the Sungai Tujuh border in great numbers.
