KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang received a courtesy call from the outgoing Chinese consul-general Liu Quan at his office yesterday.

Liu expressed his hope of a continuous bilateral relations particularly in the agricultural sector.

“We hope the relations between the state of Sarawak and China will continue to strengthen in times to come, especially in agriculture.

“The food basket of Sarawak will be successful with a huge Chinese market. We can do more together to benefit both Sarawak and China.

“I will continue to follow the development of Sarawak and do my part in promoting Sarawak in China,” he said.

Jabu, who is also Modernisation of Agriculture minister, noted that there have been a few projects implemented in the state in collaboration with Chinese companies such as a rubber factory in Betong and a vegetable farm in Bintulu.

“With the advanced biotechnology from China, we are expanding the potential of our agriculture sector.

“We hope to develop Sarawak so that it will reach the market in China,” he said.

Both Jabu and Liu exchanged souvenirs with each other as a parting gesture.

Liu has served as the consul-general in Sarawak for two years and is leaving to take up an ambassadorial appointment in Vanuatu.

He was accompanied by his wife Sun Xia during the courtesy call.
